Platform:Celebrating Local Heroes
Lynn Adele Tryon, 22, of Tribes Hill was crowned Miss Mohawk Valley 2011 during the annual pageant held Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Herkimer High School. Tryon was awarded a $1000 scholarship for her education as well as the opportunity to advance and represent the Mohawk Valley at the Miss New York Pageant to be held this June in Staten Island. The winner of the Miss New York pageant will then advance to the Miss America Pageant. Tryon will spend the next year making appearances throughout the area promoting her platform of "Celebrating Heroes". She was crowned by outgoing Miss Mohawk Valley, Kieren Sheridan of Johnstown.
Placements and other awards are as follows:
Misty-Lynn Hilts of Gloversville was the recipient of both the Community Service and Miss Congeniality awards that came with a $100 scholarship for each. Jessica Lape of Canajoharie won the People's Choice award. The non-finalist talent award was presented to Stephanie Mata of Rome and there was a tie for the non-finalist interview award between Katelynn Smith of Broadalbin and Misty-Lynn Hilts.
The Miss Mohawk Valley Scholarship Pageant was held under the direction of Laurie Jean Britton. It is an official preliminary to the Miss New York and Miss America Pageants.
